Brockport Comprehensive Plan
Brockport, New York
Brockport is a quaint village approximately 20 miles west of Rochester. It's the home of the State University of New York at Brockport and includes a traditional Main Street that runs perpendicular to the historic Erie Canal. Like many college-towns across the Country, Brockport grapples with a growing rental housing market, retaining and attracting families, and maintaining a downtown that caters to more than college students.
In an effort to address these challenges while embracing its town-gown roots, Brockport sought a new comprehensive plan. The Village's previous plan was more than 15 years old and was a joint effort with an adjacent Town. Understanding that the Village is different from the Town in regard to character, challenges, opportunities, and assets, Brockport decided to create its own comprehensive plan. Ingalls Planning & Design was selected to work with a local Steering Committee to execute a collaborative planning process. The process produced a decision-making framework comprised of a community-based vision, core values, and planning principles. A future land use plan was developed to guide future zoning and recommended actions were identified for the five priority focus areas. The Plan was unanimously adopted by the Village Board. |
