Hammondsport-Urbana Waterfront Master Plan
In a proactive approach to preserve natural resources, strengthen the waterfront as a regional community asset, and identify opportunities for appropriate land and water uses, the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), along with the Town of Urbana and the Village of Hammondsport, coordinated the development of a master plan for the Keuka Lake waterfront.
Ingalls Planning & Design was commissioned to work with a Waterfront Advisory Committee (WAC) to facilitate the development of the plan. The plan targeted the waterfront, which includes several Town and Village owned parks, a little league complex, a public pier, parking areas as well as wetlands and other natural areas. It provided an opportunity to take a comprehensive look at how all the waterfront parks, trails and other publicly owned land fits into the larger recreational context. In addition, it addresses connections to adjacent community assets such as downtown Hammondsport and the Curtis Museum. It also identified economic development opportunities for underutilized areas. The Town of Urbana adopted the plan and submitted application to New York State's Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) to implement the first phase which includes the reconstruction of Champlain Pier, improvements to Champlain Park, and the construction of trails. |
