Penn Yan Waterfront Plan
Penn Yan, New York
Yates County is in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. Like many communities in the Finger Lakes, the Village fo Penn Yan is re-envisioning its once working waterfront. The County, in collaboration with the Village of Penn Yan, the Town of Milo, and the Town of Jerusalem, retained the planning and design services of Ingalls Planning & Design to prepare a waterfront revitalization plan for land along the Keuka Lake and the Keuka Outlet Trail.
The Penn Yan waterfront has a rich history involving steam ships and boat building. The former Penn Yan Marine Site, obtained by Yates County, is a focus area for the Plan. The site was contaminated and required environmental remediation before it could be redeveloped. Along with an overall conceptual plan for the entire waterfront, specific re-development alternatives were prepared for the Penn Yan Marine Site. Both the conceptual plan and the redevelopment alternatives are supported by an implementation plan that outlines specific recommendations for adaptive reuse of vacant and underutilized land, public access to the waterfront, trail development, gateways, park improvements, circulation and access improvements, and funding opportunities. |
