Route 62 Business Corridor Plan
The Cities of Sharon and Hermitage are located in southwestern Mercer County Pennsylvania. The two municipalities are close, yet so different. Sharon is an urban city with a grid street pattern, historic buildings, and a traditional “main street” in a mixed-use downtown. Hermitage is the modern day suburban community and includes a large mall, several strip commercial plazas, and most of its residential neighborhoods are of typical cul-de-sac design. The common thread that ties these two cities together is State Street/Irvine Avenue, also known as Route 62.
Ingalls Planning & Design (IPD) was a member of a multi-disciplinary team of planners and engineers selected by the Mercer County Regional Planning Commission (MCRPC) to prepare a plan for the corridor to not only address congestion and safety but also land use and design. IPD’s role included land use planning, downtown revitalization, streetscape and urban design, and public participation. The Route 62 Business Corridor Plan won a Planning Excellence Award from the American Planning Association - Pennsylvania Chapter. |
